About the peer review

My peer reviewer is Leiah Eloche. She is a great reviewer and gave me many useful suggestions. After read her review, I changed a lot on my web as well as my blog.
Peer review is a great way to help us improve our assignment. This is the first time that I review the other’s work and reviewed by the other person. By the way of reviewing others’ work, I understand how to give marks and how to improve my website and blog. Through reviewing by the other person, I got many brilliant advices for me to improving my work. It is a great study experience for me.

Authentic learning

We had a lecture which talked about authentic learning today. This topic reminds me many things which happened in my study life, and had an impact on me.

In my view, China’s education is to force students memorizing what they learnt on the class, and passing exams.  Students even do not allowed to ask “why” on the class. The reason is that passing exam is the most important thing, beside this, everything is useless.  Since I was a child, I was been forced to memorize everything without understanding.  The way of education in China is too dry, and in my mind, it is a kind of failure.

Just like the example which Jan gave us on the lecture: there are 26 sheep and 10 goats on a boat, how old is the captain? My reaction is to add 26 and 10 together without thinking whether this question makes sense or not. In my past study life, my thinking mode already been tailored in a standard form.

The reason why I decided to come here and learn Early Childhood and Primary Education is that I want to do some contribution to China’s education. I know my power is tiny, but at least I can influence the students I will teach in my future. Probably, the student who will be taught by me can have a different life.

Related my goal to this unit, I found that this unit is extremely useful for me. The reason is that this unit taught me how to use technology effectively in my class, and how to become a creative teacher. In addition, using technology is a great way to attract children’s attention, and let them to learn knowledge in a delightful mood.

Abby's assignment 1b

To be honest, when I just heard the assignment 1b, I was totally confused. I did not what to do and what is the purpose of the assignment. After browsed the component website which is provided by our lecturer, I still had no idea about this assignment. Yesterday, during my tutorial, my tutor Daniel spent a lot of time to explain to me what should I do.  I am very appreciating about this.

I decided to plan my 20^th birthday which will come soon as my social event. This is the first time that I can make a plan to my own birthday party, and it is also the first birthday I will celebrate in Australia. When I was in China, I usually celebrated my birthday with my family and friends by having dinner together. Compared to China’s birthday party, birthday parties here are totally different.


The theme of my birthday party is “childhood”. The purpose of this theme is to recall everyone’s childhood and have fun.  The tool I decided to use in my social event is taste.com.au. My dinner menu is created on this web by myself, which is not too hard.
After used this web, I realized that plan a dinner or a party is not that difficult anymore. Taste.com.au presents thousands of dishes from different cuisines. Each of the dishes has a detailed cooking method which is step by step and very easy to follow. I also created my cooking club on this website. In the club, I can make friends who are also interested in cooking and post my dish on the web, so that everyone can see it.

What I think about this unit

This is my first semester at Murdoch University. Before I started my study, I read the course plan of my major, one of them called Living and Learning with Technology attracted me. At that time, I could not understand why do we need to study this unit, because most people in our generation are very good at computer. Until the first lecture, this question always confused me. I remembered in the first lecture, Dr. Herrington showed us a video about a little boy, it was a “terrible” video.  Before this course I always thought making website is a very difficult task and only can made by professional people, but when we started it was not that hard at all.
The journey of using and studying technology is quite interesting. I am sure I will become a good teacher who can teach very well and also can use technology very well.

Leaner permitted.

I got my learner permitted! This means I will start to learn how to become a driver soon. I am so excited about this. In fact, I already learned how to drive in China, but still, it is different from here to China. It also means I suit myself more into this new society. In conclusion, to get the learner permitted means a lot to me.
